This had been one of my most-anticipated for 2012, and I'm happy to say it didn't disappoint. While the story wasn't what I expected (the summaries and trailer are kind of misleading), it was still fantastic. The visuals are gorgeous, the premise original and topical, and the performances are excellent. I absolutely loved Quvenzhané Wallis in the lead role of Hushpuppy, and at times I was reminded of Tideland in the director's ability to so intimately place the viewer within the eyes of a curious little girl.
